Spirit . . .

SpiritSpirit is a striking tri-colored border collie with long legs, erect ears and a beautiful head. The team immediately changed his name from Buckeye on the way home from Las Vegas where he was acquired as a rescue dog from Touch N Go. He has lived up to his new name by showing an aptitude for flyball and demonstrating his total commitment to the sport within the first few weeks of arriving in San Diego. Within a few months of training, he showed Lickety Splits how much he wanted a slot on the A Team by running sub-four seconds at practice. His enthusiasm and athleticism is clearly evident when he walks into the racing ring.

Shortly after his first year of training, and four tournaments after his maiden run with Lickety Splits Stealth, Spirit ran as second dog in Stealth’s four-dog line-up at the U-FLI National Championship in Mesquite Texas that won the Division 2 National Championship. On March 18th, 2007 Spirit along with Vengeance became the all time fastest pairs team holding the record of 7.563 seconds.  We are very proud of this great dog!

Spirit was named Buckeye before he found his permanent home with Lickety Splits.  This was his life before flyball ...

SpiritWhen I was a young puppy, my people used to keep me tied out in the yard where I got to lay around all day in the sun.  I got real bored, so I decided to make up my own games to keep busy. I started pretending that shadows were my doggie friends, and I would chase them all day.  Those people got tired of my fun games, so I went to live at a new home.

The best part about the new place was that it didn’t have a fence so I could run around the neighborhood and go wherever I wanted. That was also really fun, but my people didn’t like it. So, they sent me away to live with a foster family who promised to find me a better place to live.

My life couldn’t have been better when my foster family found me a new home on an 11-acre llama farm!  These people were really nice, but the top llama and llama mommas didn’t like me very much and tried to hurt me.  I tried to explained to my people that it’s my job to look after the flock, but I don’t think they understood.  I enjoyed having all that space to run around, but what I really wanted was a family to love me and give me a real job.

Spirit and Jum JensenThen one day this September, I found out I was going to live with the Jensen family and they play Flyball!  Boy, was I happy!  I had heard about how other dogs like myself were able to start over and learn new things through this sport called Flyball.  Finally, I found people who get me! So, I moved to Las Vegas and made myself right at home on a Flyball Team called Touch N Go. They rescue lots of other dogs and find them new homes where they are appreciated.  Just like me, three of my new brothers and sisters were also adopted, and now I don’t have as much time to chase my old shadow friends.

My new Mom and Dad knew that I needed to play flyball more often so they let me go live with a very nice Lady called Eunice and run with my new permanent flyball team called Lickety Splits.  They let me run races all the time.  They gave me my new name "Spirit" because they had a lot of faith in me and knew that some day I would become a real good flyball boy.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it!
